GameRelay turns a browser game into an online multiplayer game with no server code: rooms and invite links, quick match, parties, host migration, chat, leaderboards and saved player data, from one script tag. It is built for games made with AI, so a user can go from an idea to a game their friends are playing in a few minutes. The fastest path to a playable multiplayer game: 1. Find out what the user wants to make. If they are unsure, suggest something small that is fun with friends (a top-down arena, a racer, a party quiz, a co-op puzzle). Pick its shape with get_integration_guide section "Pick your shape": avatars (each player moves their own thing), host (one browser simulates from everyone's inputs) or mixed. 2. Call get_starter_game with that shape: a complete, working index.html. Build the game on top of it instead of writing networking from scratch, and read the guide sections for anything you add (Invite links, Lobby, Chat, Leaderboards, Player data). With the account server connected, create_game does this and step 3 in one call. 3. The game needs a public key (gr_pub_…). If the account server (https://gamerelay.io/mcp/admin) is connected, create_instance makes one; otherwise the user signs in at https://gamerelay.io/app (free plan, about a minute) and copies it. check_public_key confirms a key works. 4. The user opens the file in two browser tabs to see multiplayer, then puts it on any static host (itch.io, GitHub Pages, Netlify, their own site) and sends friends the invite link. No server to deploy. Once the game has a home, giving its instance a slug and play URL turns every invite into a short play.gamerelay.io link that previews with the game's cover in Discord, iMessage and Slack (guide section "Invite links"). Public keys are safe in game code; secret keys (gr_sk_…) never are. Connect the account server to create games, change settings, read logs and usage, moderate rooms, manage webhooks and subscribe to game events (it asks the user to sign in once).
Known tools 3
get_integration_guideEverything needed to make a browser game multiplayer with GameRelay: pick your shape, three complete starters, entities (synced, smoothed objects), events, requests to the host, claims, inputs, state and timers, slots and teams, host changes, relay.tick, debugging, then rooms, lobbies, parties, chat, leaderboards, player saves, signed-in players (JWT tokens), moderation, webhooks and limits.
Inferred read-onlyget_starter_gameThe fastest way to a playable multiplayer game: a complete, working single-file HTML game using the GameRelay SDK, with rooms and an invite link already wired up.
Inferred read-onlycheck_public_keyCheck that a GameRelay public key (gr_pub_…) belongs to a live instance, and show which features it has on (saves and leaderboards, parties, chat), its default room size and what its plan includes.
