SF Tech Map: a verified, mobile-first map of the San Francisco tech scene (startups, scaleups, big tech, VCs, accelerators, coworking, hacker houses at neighbourhood level, community spaces, cafes, landmarks, events, walking tours). Covers San Francisco city limits only (no Peninsula, East Bay or South Bay). Start with list_neighborhoods to learn the place vocabulary, resolve_place for free-text places, nearby for walking-distance questions (metres and minutes), search_entities for everything else, get_entity for one record, get_tour/list_tours for walks, events_this_week for what is on, changes_since for what is new, stats for coverage. Every result includes meta.dataset_version and meta.attribution ("Data: SF Tech Map, CC BY 4.0, https://sftechmap.app"); cite it. Points are PUBLIC points: hacker houses and residential addresses are never more precise than a neighbourhood centroid, and funding/headcount are bands. Results are capped at 25 items and 30 KB; follow next_cursor or has_more rather than re-calling with the same arguments.
Known tools 15
changes_sincePublic change log of the SF tech map since a date: new pins, moves, closures, planned offices, leases, funding rounds, status flips and corrections.
Inferred read-onlyevents_this_weekUpcoming tech events in San Francisco: meetups, hackathons, demo days, talks, office hours.
Inferred read-onlyfetchConnector-style document fetch for ChatGPT / OpenAI deep research: takes the `id` returned by `search` (an entity slug) and returns {id, title, text, url, metadata}.
Inferred read-onlyget_entityFull record for one company, fund, accelerator, coworking space, hacker house, community space, cafe or landmark on the SF tech map, by `slug` (as returned by search_entities, nearby or the list tools; aliases also resolve).
Inferred read-onlyget_neighborhoodProfile of one San Francisco neighbourhood (a DataSF analysis neighbourhood such as `hayes-valley` or `south-of-market`; names and aliases resolve too): one-liner, transit notes, centroid, its district with aliases, counts by kind, stale count, up to 10 highlights, 5 coworking spaces, 5 investors and 5 recent changes, plus a `map_url`.
Inferred read-onlyget_tourOne editorial walking tour by `slug` (from list_tours): 2-10 ordered stops with a story and what to look for, legs with distance in metres and walking minutes, total minutes, a transit note, a `map_url` that opens the tour player at stop 1, and Apple/Google Maps walking-direction links.
Inferred read-onlylist_coworkingPlaces to work from in San Francisco: coworking spaces by default, plus `community_space` and `cafe` when added to `kinds`.
Inferred read-onlylist_investorsVenture funds, angel groups, family offices and accelerators that invest, with a San Francisco office.
Inferred read-onlylist_neighborhoodsThe vocabulary of places: the 41 DataSF analysis neighbourhoods (slug, name, aliases, centroid, district, entity count) and the 8 editorial districts with their aliases and member neighbourhoods.
Inferred read-onlylist_toursPublished editorial walking tours of the SF tech scene with title, summary, persona (newcomer, founder, investor, local, curious), stop count, total minutes, distance and a `map_url`.
Inferred read-onlynearbyWhat is within walking distance of a point in San Francisco: entities with `distance_m` (metres, straight line), `walk_min` (minutes, street-grid adjusted) and compass bearing, nearest first.
Inferred read-onlyresolve_placeTurn free text into a point and a label using only our own vocabulary: district names and aliases first (Neighbourhood vocabulary: 8 districts (soma-south-beach, fidi-jackson-square, mission-bay-dogpatch, mission-potrero, hayes-valley, presidio-marina, civic-center-mid-market, outer-sf), the 41 DataSF neighbourhoods (see list_neighborhoods), and aliases such as `Cerebral Valley` (Hayes Valley), `Area AI` (Mission & Potrero), `Showplace Square` and `South Park` (SoMa), `FiDi`, `Dogpatch`, `Pier 70`.), then neighbourhoods, then entity names.
Inferred read-onlysearchConnector-style free-text search for ChatGPT / OpenAI deep research: one `query`, returns {results: [{id, title, url}]} where `id` is the entity slug for `fetch`.
Inferred read-onlysearch_entitiesSearch the SF tech map: startups, scaleups, big tech, corporates, VCs, accelerators, coworking, hacker houses, community spaces, cafes and landmarks.
Inferred read-onlystatsDataset-wide numbers for the SF tech map: version and build time, entity counts by kind, neighbourhood and district, human-verified share, stale count, share at exact/block precision, tours, events in the next 14 days, changes in the last 30 days, licence (CC BY 4.0) and attribution.
