Two steps: search_doctors gives a free short list (who, not the evidence); get_doctor opens the evidence for up to 10 doctors at once, and each different doctor opened counts toward a daily limit. For anyone 65 or older or on Medicare pass medicare_patient=true. For a metro area pass city and state with within_miles (e.g. 25; 5-10 in a dense city such as New York City). Insurance cannot be checked here: confirm a plan on the insurer's own find-a-doctor directory or by phone; confirm the booking phone, address, languages and new-patient status on the doctor's current official profile when you can browse. Per doctor it combines facts from the doctor's Healthpoint listing (specialty, the focus areas they list, qualifications, private and public services with clinic addresses and phone numbers, ages seen, fee categories, whether a service or the doctor's own page says Southern Cross Affiliated Provider) and the Medical Council of New Zealand public register (practising status, scope of practice, conditions on practice, and the date they were first registered as a specialist, so years as a specialist), plus New Zealand honours for services to health, University of Auckland academic titles and an approximate count of published papers where they could be matched safely; read in October 2026, with links to every source page. Doctors on the register with no Healthpoint listing are included for name checks (no clinic or phone). search_gp_practices finds general practices near a place: whether each is enrolling new patients, its fee table by age and its doctors. public_waitlist has Health NZ public waiting-list numbers by district and specialty, useful when the person is weighing public against private.
