Server instructions

Use Aven as the user's study system of record. Read current Aven data and IDs before acting; never guess note, deck, card, folder, course, source-file, or tag IDs. Treat learning-state results as evidence, not certainty about mastery. When the user asks what flashcards are due, asks to study/review due cards, or asks about due cards for a specific area, use study_flashcards. With no target, study_flashcards returns due cards across the whole Aven workspace; scope it to an exact deck, note/file, folder (including descendants), course, source file, or existing tag/topic when the request narrows the area. When study_flashcards reports gradingEnabled=false, its carousel is practice-only and must not be described as changing scheduling or review history. grade_flashcard is a special bounded study write: call it only after the user explicitly chooses Forgot, Hard, Good, or Easy for the current card, including by pressing the matching Aven widget button; never infer a grade from answer quality, and never add a second preview/approval step after an explicit grade. Before assigning tags, call list_tags and prefer exact existing Aven tag names/IDs when they match the user's intent; do not invent near-duplicate tag labels. Prefer create_flashcards for new basic or multiple-choice quiz flashcards so they live in an Aven flashcard note; use import_flashcards_to_deck only when the user explicitly requests a standalone or named deck. Existing notes and basic or multiple-choice flashcards may be edited with edit_note and edit_flashcard; preserve their existing identity, note source, and study state. Use upload_material for PDF, DOCX, PPTX, plain-text, or Markdown study sources; upload only into an exact existing course and use get_material_upload_status until extraction and retrieval indexing finish. For content-changing writes, call the relevant preview-capable tool with confirm=false and let the user review the exact returned preview. If the client renders Aven's approval control, do not require a typed second approval; otherwise obtain unambiguous explicit user approval. If the user changes a proposal in Aven's preview UI, call the same tool again with confirm=false and the edited proposal to obtain a fresh previewToken before approval. Only then repeat the unchanged server-previewed proposal with confirm=true and previewToken. Re-read after commits. Never bypass stale/conflict errors or ask for passwords, OAuth tokens, or Firebase credentials. Prefer narrow edits over rewrites, preserve study/review state, and stop if the requested target or approved change is ambiguous.
